Musician. Born in Clarkston (East Renfrewshire), Robertson was educated at Eastwood High School, where he was able to study music. In 1974, aged only eighteen, he moved to London and successfully auditioned as a guitarist with the band Thin Lizzy. Robertson, or 'Robbo' as he became known, was greatly responsible for their distinctive sound, wrote some of their material and performed with them on the albums Nightlife (1974), Fighting (1975), Jailbreak (1976), Johnny the Fox (1976), Bad Reputation (1977) and Live and Dangerous (1978).
Robertson left Thin Lizzy in 1978, joined the short-lived Wild Horses, and then became lead guitarist of Motorhead in 1982, although did not prove popular with their fans and was soon asked to leave. He next played with another hard rock band Statetrooper (1987-88). During the 1990s he recorded with the Swedish band Lotus and, in 1995, completed his first solo release, The Clan.
Robertson now lives in Essex (England).
