Stuart McGugan


1944 -

Actor. Born in Stirling, McGugan was raised in Letham and then Westmuir in Angus, and attended Forfar Academy. His first job was as a reporter for the Kirriemuir Herald and became involved in amateur dramatics. He trained as an actor at Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, graduating in 1965. He went on to perform with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre, and then spent almost as decade as a presenter of the BBC's ground-breaking children's programme Play School. However, McGugan is best known for It Ain't Half Hot Mum (1974-81), Tutti Frutti (1987) and Hamish Macbeth (1995-97) all for the BBC and The Chief (1993-94) for Anglia Television.
