Politician. Born in Edinburgh, the daughter of a wool mill manager, Davidson was raised in Selkirk in the Scottish Borders and Lundin Links in Fife, attending Buckhaven High School. She read English Literature at the University of Edinburgh, and began her career as a journalist as a newspaper reporter, and then on radio. At the same time she served in the Territorial Army (32 Signal Regiment). Davidson worked for BBC Scotland (2002-09) before returning to education to read International Development at the University of Glasgow. Thereafter she turned to politics, serving as a Member of the Scottish Parliament for Glasgow (2011-16) and for Edinburgh Central (2016-21). She served as Leader of the Scottish Conservative Party (2011-19) and was Conservative Leader in the Scottish Parliament (2020-21). Davidson is a liberal-conservative, who was opposed to Brexit and the policies of Prime Minister Boris Johnson. She was elevated to the peerage as Baroness Davidson of Lundin Links in 2021.
