Character actor. Born in Edinburgh, Currie began as a choir master and church organist, but went on to star on stage and screen. His film career began late in life, with more than 100 roles from 1931 until his death. These included The Edge of the World (1937), where he starred alongside John Laurie (1897 - 1980) 49th Parallel (1941), I Know Where I'm Going! (1945), a remarkable performance as Magwitch in David Lean's Great Expectations (1946), Rob Roy, the Highland Rogue (1953), People Will Talk (1951) and Ben-Hur (1959).
He died in Gerrard's Cross (England).
