Cedric Thorpe Davie


1913 - 1983

Composer and academic. Davie was Professor of Music at St. Andrew's University, but also renowned for composing musical works for 24 films, radio and theatre, in addition to more than 200 concert pieces. His film scores included Rob Roy, the Highland Rogue (1953), starring James Robertson Justice (1905-75), Archie Duncan (1914-79) and Finlay Currie (1878 - 1968), the comedy The Green Man (1956) starring Alistair Sim (1900-76), and Kidnapped (1960).

The Coronation March Royal Mile (1952), which was premiered in Dundee by the Scottish National Orchestra, is one of his better known works.
