Wallacetown

South Ayrshire

Like Newton on Ayr, Wallacetown grew to take advantage of the growth in trade in Ayr and in coal exploration. Named after the landowners, the Wallaces of Craigie, the village grew on a field known locally as the Park of Newton on Ayr but quickly grew to incorporate the village of Content, the village created on the Gordons of Blackhouse estate. Today it is one of the northern suburbs of Ayr and has undergone many redevelopments.
