Failford South Ayrshire The hamlet of Failford is located 2½ miles (4 km) west of Mauchline and 2 miles (3 km) east southeast of Tarbolton in South Ayrshire. It lies on the north bank of a meander of the River Ayr at its confluence with the Water of Fail. Above the hamlet is Highland Mary's Monument, which commemorates Robert Burns and his lover Mary Campbell, while the Covenanter Alexander Peden is said to have preached nearby.
