Bonnytoun

West Lothian

A location and former estate in the N of West Lothian, Bonnytoun is situated a half-mile (1 km) northeast of Linlithgow and is now divided by the M9 motorway. Bonnytoun Farm and Bonnytoun Cottages lie to the north of the motorway, 2 miles (3 km) south southeast of Bo'ness. The cottages are Art-and-Crafts style and date from 1907. In the later 18th C., Bonnytoun was the property of the Cadells of Grange. Bonnytoun was the birthplace of Adam Dawson (1793 - 1873), a distiller and Provost of Linlithgow, who took ownership of the estate and built Bonnytoun House around 1840, which lies amongst parkland to the south of the motorway. Dawson's father had run a small distillery here.
