Balquhidder Station

Balquhidder Station is a small settlement which has developed around the former railway station a half-mile (1 km) northeast of the Kingshouse Hotel on the A84 trunk road and 2¼ miles (3.7 km) east of Balquhidder in Stirling Council Area. Balquhidder Station opened in 1870 on the Callander and Oban Railway. In 1905 it developed into a junction with the Lochearnhead, St. Fillans and Comrie Railway, and had a locomotive shed and a turntable. The latter line closed in the 1950s and Balquhidder Station closed completely in 1965, when the line between Stirling and Crianlarich fell victim of the Beeching cuts. Now occupying the site is the Balquhidder Braes Holiday Park, a caravan and camping site which also provides holiday accommodation in log cabins.
