Dewartown

Midlothian

A small linear hamlet in Midlothian, located on the B6372 road, a mile (1.5 km) west of Pathhead and 1½ miles (2.5 km) east of Mayfield, Dewartown takes its name from the Dewar family, former owners of the Vogrie Estate, which lies to the south of the hamlet and is now a country park. Notable is an almost continuous terrace of single-storey cottages, mostly with red pantile roofs. The settlement was designated a Conservation Area in 1975, but was greatly extended in the early 21st C.
