Ulbster

Located on the east coast of Caithness district, Highland Council, the village of Ulbster sits 7 miles (11 km) south of Wick. A scattered community, its most notable feature is the 18th Century Sinclair Mausoleum in the grounds of the mediaeval St. Martin's Chapel. Ulbster is also associated with Sir John Sinclair (1754 - 1835), a politician who set up the Statistical Account of Scotland, which led directly to the modern census. There was once a station on the Wick and Lybster Light Railway but this closed in 1944.
