Carrabus

Argyll and Bute

A location in the centre of the island of Islay in the Inner Hebrides, Carrabus is centred 1¼ miles (2 km) northwest of Islay House. There are small farms at West Carrabus, Mid Carrabus and East Carrabus, with the Carrabus Plantation to the east and the Carrabus Burn to the southeast. A prehistoric stone axe was found near West Carrabus in the early 1960s. The name is of Norse origin, meaning 'homestead by the wood'.
