Octovullin

Argyll and Bute

A farm in the centre of Islay in the Inner Hebrides, Octovullin, known locally as 'mill brae', is located to the east of Loch Skerrols, 1¼ miles (2 km) northeast of Bridgend. The unusual name, which is unique to three place-names in Islay, derives from an ancient areal measure, the octave, which was an eighth of a davoch, and thus Octovullin (Gael: Ochdamh muileann) means 'eighth mill'. A farm-scale whisky distillery operated here between 1816 and 1819.
