Lochaline

(Loch Àlainn)
Highland

A small village on the south coast of the Morvern peninsula, Lochaline (Gael:: Loch Àlainn) lies at the mouth of Loch Aline, looking out over the Sound of Mull. Exceptionally pure silica sand was mined here for use in glass-making and the remains of the plant lies disused on the shore of Loch Aline. There is a school, post office, a small fire station and substantial war memorial, which was unveiled in 1921. A ferry links with Fishnish on the island of Mull. Timber is exported from the West Pier, while the Glensanda Super-Quarry operates to the east.
