One of a number of small crofting townships strung out along the A 87 trunk road on the eastern shore of Loch Snizort Beag on the Trotternish peninsula of Skye, Kensaleyre lies at the head of Loch Eyre, between Rhenetra and Eyre. Kensaleyre Primary School closed in 1998.
