A small settlement on the southeast coast of Eigg in the Inner Hebrides, Kildonan (or Kildonnan) lies a mile (1.5 km) northeast of Galmisdale. A ruined 16th-century church dedicated to St. Donnan is located here, on a site which has long been a centre for religious worship. One of the earliest Christian monasteries in Scotland was established here in the 7th century and St. Donnan is thought to have been martyred here by the Vikings. An 8th-century Pictish stone known as the Kildonnan Cross, was found here in the early 20th century and remains in the churchyard nearby. Kildonan House is an 18th-century farmhouse which now provides visitor accommodation.
