Rothes

Moray

A whisky-making town in Moray on the Malt Whisky Trail, Rothes lies to the west of the River Spey, 10 miles (16 km) south of Elgin. It was founded by the Earl of Findlater in 1766, replacing an earlier settlement. Its first whisky distillery, Glen Grant, was founded in 1840 by James and John Grant. Nearby stand the ruins of Rothes Castle, built in the 15th century by the Leslie Earl of Rothes. It has two 9-hole golf courses.
