This small village is located on the River Tweed 7 miles (11 km) southwest of Berwick-upon-Tweed and 6 miles (9 km) northeast of Coldstream, in the old county of Berwickshire. Ladykirk, originally named Upsettlington, was a popular crossing point for armies long before its bridge was built in 1839. James IV nearly drowned here and, as a mark of thanks, erected a church, thus changing the village's name.
Ladykirk House (1797) stood nearby to the northwest until its demolition in 1966.
