Jordanhill

Glasgow City

A largely residential district of northwest Glasgow comprising tenement flats and villas, Jordanhill lies to the south of Anniesland and east of Knightswood. It grew in association with it northern neighbour and was centred on Jordanhill House, a 16th-century mansion house rebuilt by the Smith family in 1782 and now housing the University of Strathclyde's Jordanhill Teacher Training College.

The name Jordanhill was given to a locality in Greenland in 1823, by Douglas Clavering after the residence of his friend James Smith.
