Cardonald

Glasgow City

A residential suburb of Glasgow, Cardonald is located to the southwest of the city centre on the former Cardonald Estates which were created in the 15th Century from the lands of Crookston for the illegitimate son of the Earl of Lennox. By the 18th century the Estate had been subdivided into farms and associated country houses and in the 1930s Glasgow Corporation and the Scottish Special Housing Association (SSHA) built flatted cottages across the ridge of Cardonald and down into South Cardonald. Cardonald College was built in the 1970s and in 1994 the Mirror Group newspapers moved from Anderston Quay to a new plant at Cardonald.
