Spott

East Lothian

The village of Spott lies in a sheltered location amongst the foothills of the Lammermuir Hills, 2 miles (3 km) south of Dunbar in East Lothian. Much of the village has been proposed as a conservation area, protecting the architectural character and uniformity its buildings. Most these buildings date from the 19th Century but the small church is late 18th Century and has an early example of a watch tower in the kirkyard. Permission was given in 1990 for limited development of new housing in the village, including the renovation of some derelict properties.

Spott House, lying to the southeast, is a baronial edifice with Tudor and Jacobean detailing. There has been a dwelling on the site since the 13th C., but has been extended and remodelled many times subsequently, most recently in 1830 by architect William Burn (1789 - 1870).
