Polnessan

East Ayrshire

A small settlement in the Doon Valley (East Ayrshire), Polnessan lies between the A713 road and the railway, a mile (1.5 km) north of Patna. The houses were built by Ayr County Council in the 1930s as homes for the miners at the nearby Houldsworth Colliery, which was sunk by the Dalmellington Iron Company in 1900.
