Dunlop

East Ayrshire

A commuter village in the Cunninghame district of East Ayrshire, Dunlop lies 2 miles (3 km) north of Stewarton. Centred in an area noted for its dairy farming, Dunlop gives its name to a cheese produced locally. Other industries include concrete fabrication, sawmilling and the production of animal feed-stuffs. The village has a primary school, village hall and a railway station on the line from Glasgow to Kilmarnock. Dunlop is home to the curling champion Rhona Martin (b. 1966), who led the gold medal-winning team in the Winter Olympics of 2002.
