A location to the north of the M8 motorway and River Almond in West Lothian, Tippethill lies in an area once associated with coal and fireclay mining a half-mile (1 km) north of Whitburn. Tippethill House became Tippethill Hospital for infectious diseases, and is now a nursing home for the elderly. Tippethill Farm lies to the south, while Tippethill Fireclay Mine was still operational in the 1960s.
