Dundrennan

An attractive village in Dumfries and Galloway, Dundrennan lies a mile (1.5 km) from the Solway coast and 6 miles (10 km) east of Kirkcudbright. It is built partly from stones taken from the ruins of nearby Dundrennan Abbey where Mary Queen of Scots spent her last night in Scotland. The Abbey was founded in 1142 by King David I and Fergus, Lord of Galloway, but was not completed until the 1180s. Dundrennan Primary School closed in 2004.
