Scottish Borders

A village of the Scottish Borders, lying to the south of the Eildon Hills and 2 miles (3 km) southwest of Newtown St. Boswells. The village hall dates from 1897. Bowden Parish Church, which lies across the Bowden Burn to the south, has a very early core dating from 1128. It has a 17th century 'laird's loft' carved with the arms of the Cavers Kerr family and is the ancient burial place of the Kerrs of Cessford, including the Dukes of Roxburghe. Nearby lay Holydean Castle, the former seat of these Dukes which was demolished in the 18th C.

St. Cuthbert's Way passes through the village.
