Park Neuk

(Little Paisley)

A former settlement in S Edinburgh, Park Neuk lay on the Braid Burn at Cameron Toll, in the northernmost corner of the present-day Inch Park, 2 miles (3 km) southeast of the city centre. In the 19th C. Park Neuk comprised a row of cottages on the Craigmillar and Liberton Estate which was the property of the Gilmours of nearby Inch House. It was also referred to as Little Paisley because of the hand-loom weavers who lived here in the 18th C. The population of the settlement peaked at 77 in 1871. All that remains is an old pack-horse bridge over the stream.
