Bogend

A location now comprising low-lying pasture land on the right bank of the River Garnock in North Ayrshire, Bogend is situated a mile (1.7 km) south of Kilwinning. The property of the Earls of Eglinton, coal had been mined here in the early 19th C. but the Bogend Colliery was worked from the later 19th C. until 1930, served by a branch of the railway that transported the coal to the nearby Eglinton Iron Works.
