Ardlussa

Argyll and Bute

A settlement and estate located on the northeast coast of Jura, Argyll and Bute, Ardlussa lies a mile (1.2 km) northeast of Inverlussa, overlooking Ardlussa Bay and the Sound of Jura. The estate extends to 7280 ha (18,000 acres). At its centre is Ardluss House, a substantial two-storey shooting lodge, rendered and partially whitewashed, with prominent bay windows. This dates from the 17th C. although was extended and altered c.1840 and is now B-listed. It was the seat of the McNeills of Ardlussa, Colonsay and Gigha until 1874 and is now home to Jura's only resident estate owners. They have established a small gin distillery in the former stables.
