Glenegedale is a scattered settlement once centred on a mill and a bridge over the Glenegedale River in S Central Islay, but now drawn out along an unclassified road which connects the A846 and the B8016 roads. Islay Airport was established here in the 1930s, overlooking Laggan Bay, and became a Royal Air Force base during the Second World War. Many ex-RAF buildings are still visible; either re-purposed or reduced to footings. To the east are the agricultural holdings of Glenegedale Lots and Glenegedalemoor Lots, established in the 1820s.
