A village of mid-Aberdeenshire, Port Elphinstone lies on a bend of the River Don opposite Inverurie. It originally developed as a port at the northwest end of the Aberdeen Canal which linked it with the city of Aberdeen between 1807 and 1854. It later developed as an industrial suburb of Inverurie with a railway station.
