Pannanich

Aberdeenshire

A location in Royal Deeside, Aberdeenshire, Pannanich lies on the south side of the River Dee, 2 miles (3 km) east of Ballater. About 1760 four wells here were discovered to have medicinal value and an inn was built as a form of spa. Queen Victoria tasted the water of Pannanich Wells on 3rd October 1870, noting in 'More Leaves from the Journal of a Life in the Highlands' (1884) that John Brown "formerly stayed here for a year as servant". The water is still exploited commercially under the brand Royal Deeside Natural Mineral Water.
