Kirkton of Durris


Aberdeenshire

Situated to the south of the River Dee, 4 miles (7 km) east of Banchory and 14 miles (22 km) west of Aberdeen, the hamlet of Kirkton of Durris lies on the Burn of Sheeoch near its junction with the Dee. To the northeast of the settlement are a mediaeval motte on which once stood a baronial residence and to the east is Durris House which dates from the 17th Century. To the south, Durris Forrest covers the slopes of Cairn-mon-earn which rises to 378 m (1241 feet).
