A settlement of the Rhinns of Islay, Kilchiaran lies in little valley of the Abhainn na Braghad behind Kilchiaran Bay, an inlet on the west coast of the island, 3 miles (5 km) west northwest of Port Charlotte. The ruin of a Mediaeval chapel here is said to mark the point where St. Columba landed on Islay in 560 AD, while the farm and associated steadings date from 1826.
