Busby

East Renfrewshire

A settlement which forms a southern residential suburb of Glasgow, Busby lies on the White Cart River 6 miles (10 km) south of Glasgow City Centre. It once straddled the border between the old counties of Renfrewshire and Lanarkshire and had chemical works, cotton mills, a paper mill and bleachfields. Greenbank House, built in 1765, a mile (2 km) to the west of Busby was acquired by the National Trust for Scotland in 1976.
