Town Seal of Anstruther Wester

Separated from Anstruther Easter by the Dreel Burn, the burgh of Anstruther Wester in the East Neuk of Fife effectively joined with Anstruther Easter and Cellardyke in 1929 when their respective Town Councils were united. Anstruther Wester was created a burgh of barony in 1154 and among its buildings of interest are the former parish church (now St Adrian's Church Hall) with adjacent kirkyard, the Dreel Tavern which once served as a coaching inn, and Buckie House which takes its name from the gable shell or buckie design created in the mid-19th Century by Andrew Batchelor.

Anstruther Wester gained a railway station in 1863 on the Fife Coastal Railway but this line closed in 1965. The old primary school here closed in 2003, and replaced by a new building on the northern outskirts of the town built under public-private partnership arrangements.
