A scattered settlement of the western coastline of the Orkney Mainland, Skaill lies on the Bay of Skaill, 4 miles (6.5 km) southwest of Dounby. Skaill House is a fine 17th-century mansion and the remarkable Skara Brae lies immediately to the west. A half-mile (1 km) to the southeast lies the Loch of Skaill.
