Howmore

(Tobha Mor)
Western Isles

A township near the west coast of South Uist in the Western Isles, Howmore (Gael: Tobha Mor) lies to the southwest of Loch Druidibeg, 1½ miles (2.5 km) south southwest of Stilligarry and 10 miles (16 km) north northwest of Lochboisdale. The white-harled Church of Scotland dating from 1858 is a notable landmark and a cluster of ruined ancient and mediaeval chapels are of historical interest. A rustic youth hostel is located here, run by the Gatliff Trust.

Haarsa rises to 139m (456 feet) to the east, with Hecla beyond, rising to 606m (1988 feet). Immediately to the south is the smaller settlement of Howbeg.
