Breaclete

(Breacleit)
Western Isles

A hamlet located at the centre of the island of Great Bernera on the west coast of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, Breaclete (Gael: Breacleit) lies 5 miles (8 km) southwest of Carloway. The Bernera Museum, a sizeable modern community centre, a primary school and a church are all located here. Publisher of Scottish poetry Callum Macdonald was born here in 1919. Loch Breaclete lies immediately to the southeast, while a reconstructed Norse corn mill is located a quarter-mile (0.5 km) to the east on the shore of Loch Risay.
