Ninewells

Dundee City

A western suburb of Dundee, Ninewells began as a few cottages and a smithy on the Perth Road, with Ninewells Junction, to the southeast, which once took a branch from the Dundee and Perth railway to Lochee. The district grew in the 1950s as a private residential development fued from the estate of Invergowrie House. For many years Ninewells was the western terminus of Dundee's tram network. The district is now best known as the site of a large general hospital, constructed from the early 1970s. Invergowrie House (a much altered and extended 14th century tower-house) remains just to the south of the hospital.
