A locality in the Skye and Lochalsh district of Highland Council Area, Sandaig lies on the eastern shore of the Sound of Sleat, 4 miles (6.5 km) southwest of Glenelg, and looks west over Skye. Upper Sandaig lies a half-mile (1 km) to the east. Gavin Maxwell (1914-69), who wrote of his otter companions in Ring of Bright Water and two succeeding books, lived in the lighthouse keeper's cottage here until it burned down in 1966. This was the 'Camusfearna' of his books. A memorial marks the site of the cottage and Maxwell's ashes are buried beneath. Nearby is the grave of Edal, one of Maxwell's otters. Immediately offshore lies a small group of islets known as the Sandaig Islands.
Another Sandaig is situated on the Knoydart peninsula, 6 miles (10 km) to the southwest.
