Leckie

Stirling

A location and estate in Stirling Council Area, Leckie lies in the northern foothills of the Gargunnock Hills, 7 miles (11 km) west of Stirling. The name comes from Malcolm de Leky who acquired the estate from Robert the Bruce in the mid-14th C. It was bought in 1906 by brewer and politician George Younger (1st Viscount Younger of Leckie; 1851 - 1929). Lying a mile (1.5 km) west of the village of Gargunnock, Old Leckie dates from the 16th C., while Watson House (originally known as New Leckie) was built c.1836 and Leckie House was built in 1962 as the Younger family home. Watson House was converted into flats in 2001. The estate was sold by the Youngers in 2015.
