Carradale

Argyll and Bute

A village on the east coast of the Kintyre Peninsula, Carradale lies 11 miles (18 km) northeast of Campbeltown in Argyll and Bute. In the 19th Century it developed as a small resort with steam connection and a fishing harbour and in the 20th Century the neighbouring hills of Kintyre were extensively afforested. In 1990 the Carradale fishing vessel 'Antares' was accidentally sunk by a naval submarine on manoeuvres. The authoress Naomi Mitchison (1897 - 1999) lived at Carradale House for more than 60 years.
