Clardon

(Clairdon)
Highland

A location and farming community on the north coast of Caithness, Clardon (sometimes Clairdon), lies 2 miles (3 km) east northeast of Thurso. Clardon Hill rises to 52m (170 feet) a half-mile (1 km) southwest of Clardon Head. Clardon Haven lies to the east of Clardon Head, a quarter-mile (0.5 km) north of West Murkle. Clardon was the site of a battle between two Norse Earls in 1196, with the spot where one was cut-down now marked by Harold's Tower (built 1790, to serve as a mausoleum for the Sinclairs of Ulbster).
