A suburb of Dumbarton in West Dunbartonshire, Townend lies to the north of the town centre. BBC Scotland films the television soap River City and other dramas here on the site of a former whisky warehouse. The site includes a purpose-built film set representing the fictional Shieldinch that includes life-size wooden replicas of tenements, shops and even a Glasgow Underground station.
