A village of central W Lothian, Dechmont lies 1¼ miles (2 km) west of Uphall and 2 miles (3 km) north of Livingston, immediately to the north of the M8 motorway. Dechmont developed in conjunction with the Bangour Hospitals which are located just to the west. The Dechmont Estate was run from Dechmont House, which now lies within the Woodlands Park district of Livingston. The estate was bought by the Livingston Development Corporation in 1965 to provide space for the growing New Town.
