Taking its name from the crossing over the River Avon, Linlithgow Bridge lies to the west of Linlithgow in West Lothian Council Area. The Battle of Linlithgow Bridge (1526) followed the murder of the 3rd Earl of Lennox by Sir James Hamilton of Finnart. A village developed here after the building of a calico printing works in 1789, which employed 200. The Loch Mill opened in 1808 to manufacture paper, employed 70 people in 1856 but closed in 1986.
