Hardgate

West Dunbartonshire

An old linear village of West Dunbartonshire which now forms a northeastern suburb of Clydebank, Hardgate lies next to Faifley 1½ miles (2.5 km) north northeast of the town centre and a similar distance northwest of Drumchapel. Hardgate developed along the Glasgow Road in association with the cotton mills of Faifley and Duntocher during the 19th century. A modest amount of public housing was developed here in the 1930s. The Clydebank and District Golf Club opened just to the south in 1905, while the course of the Antonine Wall runs just beyond. Comedian Kevin Bridges (b.1986) was raised here.
