Uphall Station

A small village located around a station on the Edinburgh-Bathgate railway line, Uphall Station lies immediately to the east of Houston Industrial Estate in Livingston and a mile (1.5 km) south of Uphall. A series of 'rows' were built in the later 19th C to house workers at Uphall Oil Shale Works, which lay just to the north, beyond what is now the M8 Motorway. The settlement benefits from a post office, but Uphall Station Infant School closed in 2005. The railway closed in 1959, but was re-established with a new Uphall Railway Station in 1986.
