A small settlement close to the northern coastline of North Uist, Newton (Gael: Baile Mhic Phail or Baile Mhic' Phàil) lies behind the machair a half-mile (1 km) south of Newtonferry (Port nan Long)and 6 miles (10 km) north northwest of Lochmaddy.
